Kayflow UG1003 450mm Manhole Riser for Inspection Chambers

The Kayflow UG1003 450mm manhole riser is designed to increase the height of compatible Kayflow 450mm inspection chambers and bring the chamber towards the required finished ground level. This 450mm manhole chamber riser has an overall stock height of approximately 235mm and forms part of Kayflow’s polypropylene underground drainage chamber system. The 235mm manhole riser can be installed above compatible 450mm chamber bases and additional riser sections can be added where greater chamber depth is required. As a 450mm inspection chamber riser, it provides a practical way to build an accessible underground drainage chamber, while the Kayflow 450mm chamber riser is compatible with both standard and larger-pipe Kayflow chamber base arrangements.

Kayflow UG1003 450mm Manhole Riser

The Kayflow UG1003 450mm manhole riser is the genuine raising section used within Kayflow’s current 450mm inspection chamber range. It fits above a compatible chamber base and allows the inspection chamber to be extended upwards towards the final paving, garden or ground level before a suitable cover and frame is installed.

450mm Manhole Chamber Riser

The 450mm manhole chamber riser is designed around the nominal 450mm Kayflow inspection chamber system. Multiple compatible risers can be used to increase the overall depth of the chamber, subject to Kayflow’s maximum permitted chamber depth and correct installation of the joints. The riser does not contain drainage inlets itself; those connections are located in the inspection chamber base below.

235mm Manhole Riser

The 235mm manhole riser is approximately 235mm high overall as stocked. Because the chamber components overlap when assembled, the effective increase in installed chamber height is less than the full physical height of the riser. Earlier Kayflow dimensional guidance identifies an installed rise of approximately 175mm for UG1003. This distinction is useful when calculating how many risers are required to reach the final surface level.

450mm Inspection Chamber Riser

The 450mm inspection chamber riser allows an underground drainage chamber to remain accessible even where the chamber base is installed significantly below the finished surface. The final chamber should provide suitable access for inspection, cleaning and rodding while remaining within the manufacturer’s permitted installation depth.

The Kayflow 450mm chamber riser forms part of a complete system of bases, seals, risers and access covers. Kayflow manufactures its 450mm chamber bases, risers, lids and frames from polypropylene and specifies a maximum completed chamber depth of 1200mm.

Compatible 110mm and 160mm Chamber Bases

The UG1003 riser can be used as part of the same Kayflow 450mm chamber system above compatible chamber bases. This includes the standard UG1005 450mm base for 110mm underground drainage and the UG1014 base with a 160mm main run and 160mm 90° side entries. The riser diameter remains the same regardless of which compatible 450mm base is installed beneath it.

Building the Required Chamber Height

Determine the depth from the installed chamber base to the required finished surface before deciding how many riser sections are required. Do not simply multiply the 235mm physical height by the number of risers, because the chamber sections overlap at their joints. Account for the effective installed rise when planning the completed chamber depth. The complete Kayflow 450mm chamber must remain within the manufacturer’s maximum installation depth of 1200mm.

Riser Sealing Ring

The compatible Kayflow UG1007 riser sealing ring forms part of the chamber jointing arrangement. Make sure all chamber components and seals are clean before assembly and check that the sealing arrangement is correctly positioned before completing surrounding backfill. Kayflow also specifies silicone sealant when fitting the first riser to the manhole base and during subsequent riser-to-riser jointing.

Installing the 450mm Manhole Chamber Riser

Install the chamber base first and connect the required underground drainage pipework before adding the 450mm manhole chamber riser. Make sure the chamber base is properly supported and level. Clean the jointing surfaces and fit the correct sealing components before positioning the riser. Keep each section correctly aligned while assembling additional risers and avoid forcing chamber components together if a seal or joint is incorrectly positioned.

Finished Ground Level

The purpose of the riser is to bring the inspection chamber towards the required finished ground, paving or landscaping level. Allow for the depth of the cover and frame when determining the final riser height. The chamber cover should finish appropriately with the surrounding surface while remaining accessible for future drainage maintenance.

Supporting the Chamber Cover

The final manhole cover and frame should be installed with suitable surrounding support so that surface loading is not transferred incorrectly through the plastic risers. Select a cover with a load rating appropriate to the location and expected traffic.
