Description

The VIPSeal VAC6000 adaptor coupling is a flexible 6 inch clay to PVC connector designed to join drainage pipes with significantly different outside diameters. This 180-200mm to 160-180mm adaptor is commonly used as a 160mm PVC drainage adaptor when transitioning from older clay drainage and is manufactured as an EPDM flexible drainage adaptor with stainless-steel tension bands. 6 Inch Clay to PVC Connector

The VAC6000 is commonly used as a 6 inch clay to PVC connector when older clay drainage needs to transition into modern 160mm PVC underground drainage. Although both systems may be described nominally as 6 inch, their actual outside diameters can differ considerably. A stepped 6 inch clay to PVC connector provides the necessary reduction without using improvised packing or multiple fittings.

Installing a 6 Inch Clay to PVC Connector

Before fitting the 6 inch clay to PVC connector, expose sound sections of both pipes and measure their outside diameters. Avoid measuring across sockets, collars, damaged sections or other raised areas. Clean both pipe surfaces, position the coupling centrally over the joint and tighten the stainless-steel tension bands evenly to the manufacturer’s specified torque.

180-200mm to 160-180mm Adaptor

The 180-200mm to 160-180mm adaptor has two clearly defined connection ranges:

EPDM Flexible Drainage Adaptor

Although clay-to-PVC is a common VAC6000 application, VIPSeal does not restrict VAC adaptor couplings to those two materials alone. The manufacturer’s VAC range is designed for joining compatible pipes with significantly different outside diameters and can be used across suitable pipe materials where the measured dimensions and installation conditions are correct. This means VAC6000 may also be suitable for other material combinations within its 180–200mm and 160–180mm ranges. Selection should be based primarily on actual pipe O/D and the project specification.

6Nm Tightening Torque

VIPSeal specifies a tightening torque of 6Nm for VAC adaptor couplings in this diameter range. Both tension bands should be tightened evenly using a suitable torque-controlled tool. Correct tightening helps compress the EPDM sleeve consistently around both pipe ends.

0.6 Bar Pressure Rating

The VIPSeal VAC range has a manufacturer pressure rating of 0.6 bar / 8.7psi. VAC6000 is intended for suitable drainage and low-pressure pipeline applications rather than general high-pressure pipework.

120 Bar Jetting Resistance

VIPSeal specifies a 120 bar jetting resistance for VAC adaptor couplings. This figure relates to resistance during drainage jetting and should not be confused with the considerably lower 0.6 bar internal working-pressure rating.

Working Temperature Range

VIPSeal specifies a constant working temperature range of -10°C to +60°C for the VAC adaptor coupling range. Applications outside the manufacturer’s stated working conditions should be checked with VIPSeal before installation.
