Description
Kayflow UG1014 Manhole Chamber Base for 450mm Inspection Chambers
The
Kayflow UG1014 manhole chamber base is a 450mm inspection chamber base designed for underground drainage installations requiring larger 160mm pipe connections. This
450mm manhole chamber base features a 160mm main run together with 160mm 90° side connections, providing a practical chamber solution for larger underground drainage systems. The
160mm manhole chamber base uses a versatile multi-entry layout for connecting several drainage runs into one accessible inspection point. Designed as a
5 inlet manhole chamber base, it forms the lower section of the Kayflow 450mm chamber system and provides future access for inspection, cleaning and rodding. This
450mm inspection chamber base is compatible with the appropriate Kayflow risers, seals and chamber covers.
Kayflow UG1014 Manhole Chamber Base
The
Kayflow UG1014 manhole chamber base is the larger-pipe version of Kayflow’s 450mm inspection chamber base. Unlike the standard UG1005 chamber base, which uses 110mm connections, Kayflow specifies the UG1014 with a 160mm main run and 160mm 90° side inlets. This makes it particularly useful where larger underground drainage pipework needs to pass through or connect into an accessible chamber.
450mm Manhole Chamber Base
The
450mm manhole chamber base forms the bottom section of a compatible Kayflow inspection chamber system. The 450mm nominal chamber diameter provides sufficient working space for inspecting drainage junctions while remaining compact enough for many domestic, commercial and site drainage applications. Additional Kayflow 450mm risers can be installed above the base to bring the inspection chamber up towards the required finished surface level.
160mm Manhole Chamber Base
The
160mm manhole chamber base is specifically designed for installations incorporating 160mm underground drainage. Kayflow confirms that the UG1014 uses a 160mm main run and 160mm connections at the two 90° inlet positions. The remaining 45° chamber entries are suitable for the smaller 110mm connections within the chamber layout. This mixed connection arrangement provides useful flexibility where both 160mm and 110mm underground drainage runs need to meet at the same inspection chamber.
5 Inlet Manhole Chamber Base
The
5 inlet manhole chamber base uses Kayflow’s standard 450mm multi-entry chamber layout:
- 1 main entry
- 2 x 90° side entries
- 2 x 45° side entries
- 4 blanking plugs within the complete chamber arrangement
Unused connections can remain blanked, allowing only the entries required for the individual drainage layout to be opened and connected.
450mm Inspection Chamber Base
The
450mm inspection chamber base creates an accessible junction within an underground drainage system. Once completed with compatible risers and a suitable cover and frame, the chamber provides access for future inspection, rodding and maintenance. Kayflow states that its 450mm inspection chamber system can be installed to a maximum depth of 1200mm when installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidance.

160mm Main Run and Side Connections
The main advantage of the UG1014 is its compatibility with larger 160mm underground drainage pipework. The main through-route and the two 90° side connections use 160mm pipe connections, allowing substantial drainage runs to meet or pass through the chamber while retaining access for future maintenance. The 45° entries provide additional connection options for compatible 110mm drainage branches.
Inspection Chamber Access
An inspection chamber provides an accessible point within an underground drainage network where pipe runs change direction, join together or may require future maintenance. Once the
450mm inspection chamber base is installed, compatible risers are used to bring the chamber to the required height before fitting the appropriate cover and frame.
Compatible Kayflow 450mm Chamber Components
The UG1014 forms part of Kayflow’s complete 450mm inspection chamber system. Compatible components include:
- Kayflow UG1003 450mm chamber riser
- Kayflow UG1007 450mm riser seal
- Kayflow UG1001 round cover and frame
- Kayflow UG2001 square cover and frame
Always use compatible chamber components and follow the manufacturer’s installation requirements when constructing the complete inspection chamber.
Installing the 160mm Manhole Chamber Base
Plan the drainage layout and required chamber position before excavation. The
160mm manhole chamber base should be installed on a suitable supporting base and positioned so the incoming and outgoing pipework remains correctly aligned. Only the required inlet connections should be used, with unused chamber entries remaining securely blanked. All connected underground drainage pipework should be adequately supported so that excessive loading is not transferred into the chamber sockets.
Installing the Chamber Risers
Kayflow states that silicone sealant should be used when fitting the first riser to the manhole base and during subsequent riser-to-riser connections. The chamber should be brought up towards the required finished ground level while remaining within the manufacturer’s maximum installation depth. The cover and frame must be correctly supported by the surrounding construction rather than relying solely on the chamber riser.
Maximum Chamber Depth
Kayflow specifies a maximum installation depth of
1200mm for its 450mm inspection chamber system. Always consider the required chamber depth, cover arrangement and applicable Building Regulations before completing the installation.
Typical Applications
The
Kayflow UG1014 manhole chamber base can be used for suitable underground drainage projects including:
- 160mm underground drainage systems
- Larger domestic drainage installations
- Site drainage
- Drainage extensions
- Multiple drainage branch connections
