110mm Tight Bend for Underground Drainage
The
tight bend provides a compact 87° change of direction within a compatible 110mm underground drainage system. The Funke KGB8710K features a single ring-seal socket at one end and a plain spigot at the other, allowing it to connect directly into standard socketed 110mm drainage pipework. Manufactured from PVC-U, this compact underground drainage bend is particularly useful where installation space is restricted and a tighter change of direction is required. Funke specifies the actual bend angle as
87°, rather than a true 90°.

Where to Use the Tight Bend
Use this fitting when a 110mm underground drainage run requires a sharp change in direction within a relatively small amount of space. Its compact radius makes it useful around foundations, chambers and other areas where a longer swept fitting may not physically fit. Typical applications include underground foul drainage, surface water systems, drainage alterations and replacement pipework.
87° Tight Bend Angle
Although fittings of this type are often grouped with 90° drainage bends, the Funke manufacturer specification for the KGB8710K is
87°. Using the manufacturer’s stated angle provides a more accurate description of the product and helps distinguish it from alternative bend configurations within the Funke underground drainage range.
Single Socket Tight Bend Connection
The fitting has one socketed end containing the drainage sealing ring and one plain spigot end. This allows the socket to accept compatible 110mm plain-ended pipe while the opposite spigot can be inserted into another suitable 110mm ring-seal socket. Before assembling the joint, make sure the socket, sealing ring and pipe end are clean and free from grit or other debris.
Installing the 110mm Tight Bend
Check the drainage layout and required fall before installation. Ensure the pipework is cut square where necessary and remove sharp burrs from cut pipe ends. Apply a suitable underground drainage lubricant to the joint where required. Align the pipe and fitting squarely before pushing the connection together. Avoid forcing the bend sideways into a socket because this may disturb the seal. Once connected, check that the surrounding pipework remains correctly aligned and supported.
Supporting the Tight Bend
Provide suitable bedding around the fitting and connected underground pipework. The tight bend should form part of a properly supported drainage system rather than carrying the weight of unsupported pipes or other fittings. Maintain the required drainage gradient and inspect all joints before backfilling. Avoid placing sharp rubble or oversized stones directly against the fitting.
Tight or Swept Bend?
A tight bend is designed to change direction within less installation space. A swept bend has a significantly longer radius and creates a more gradual change of direction. Funke lists the compact KGB8710K separately from its 110mm 87° swept single-socket bend. This product should therefore be selected where the compact version is specifically required.
Funke Bend Construction
The KGB8710K is manufactured from PVC-U and forms part of Funke’s underground drainage fitting system. The manufacturer specifies a 3.2mm wall thickness for the DN/OD 110 version and a red-brown RAL 8023 finish. The fitting is supplied with its sealing ring and uses dimensions based on BS EN 1401 for compatibility with appropriate underground drainage systems.
