Description

110mm Tight Bend for Underground Drainage

The tight bend creates a compact 87° change of direction in 110mm underground drainage pipework. The Funke KGBDS8710K has a double socket design, allowing compatible plain-ended 110mm drainage pipes or spigot-ended fittings to connect directly using the integral ring seals. Its compact profile makes this fitting useful where a near-90° change of direction is required but installation space is limited. Funke manufactures the fitting from PVC-U in a red-brown underground drainage finish for gravity drainage and sewerage systems.

110mm Tight Bend Features

  • 110mm nominal underground drainage size
  • 87° manufacturer-specified bend angle
  • Commonly referred to as a 90° drainage bend
  • Compact tight-radius profile
  • Double socket connection
  • Integral sealing rings included
  • Push-fit ring-seal joint system
  • PVC-U construction
  • Red-brown RAL 8023 finish
  • 3.2mm stated wall thickness
  • SN8 / SDR34 specification
  • Manufactured to BS EN 1401 dimensions
  • Funke manufacturer code KGBDS8710K

Where to Use the Tight Bend

Use this tight bend when a 110mm underground drainage run needs a sharp directional change within a relatively compact area. It can form part of compatible foul water, surface water and non-pressure gravity drainage systems. Typical applications include drainage repairs, alterations, extensions and new below-ground installations. The double socket configuration is also useful when two plain-ended sections of 110mm pipe need to connect at approximately a right angle.

Tight Bend or Swept Bend?

This product is the compact Funke tight bend. It should not be confused with the longer-radius Funke KGBSDS8710K swept double socket bend. The KGBDS8710K creates the directional change within a shorter overall space. A swept bend has a longer curved profile and provides a more gradual change of direction. Therefore, select the fitting according to the drainage design and available installation space.

Installing the 110mm Tight Bend

First, inspect both sockets and sealing rings. Make sure the seals sit correctly and remove soil, grit or other loose material that could affect the connection. If the connecting drainage pipe has been cut on site, make the cut as square as possible. Remove burrs and loose swarf, then chamfer the leading edge. A properly prepared pipe end helps protect the ring seal during assembly. Apply a suitable silicone drainage lubricant to the prepared pipe end and sealing ring where required. Next, align the pipe squarely with the first socket and push the joint together without forcing it at an angle. Repeat the process at the second socket. Check that the tight bend remains correctly aligned with both sections of drainage pipe.

Supporting the Tight Bend

Support the fitting and surrounding pipework with suitable underground drainage bedding. The sockets should connect the drainage system rather than carry the weight of unsupported pipes or fittings. Check the required pipe fall before completing the installation. In addition, make sure the fitting is not twisted or placed under sideways strain. Inspect both ring-seal connections before backfilling. Keep sharp stones, rubble and other potentially damaging material away from the fitting.

87° Bend Angle

Funke specifies this tight bend at 87° rather than a true 90°. This near-right-angle geometry is commonly used for underground drainage fittings and is the manufacturer’s stated angle for the KGBDS8710K. Although customers may search for a 90° underground drainage bend, the correct technical specification for this fitting is 87°.

Double Socket Tight Connection

Both ends of the fitting contain sockets with ring seals. Therefore, each side can receive a compatible 110mm plain-ended underground drainage pipe or spigot-ended fitting. The push-fit system allows installation without solvent cement. Use a suitable drainage lubricant during assembly and make sure both pipe ends enter the sockets squarely.
