Description
Competa CUG4SHH Solvent Hopper Head & Grate for Underground Drainage
The
Competa CUG4SHH solvent hopper head is a practical external drainage fitting designed to collect rainwater, surface water and suitable waste discharge before directing it into compatible below-ground drainage. This
110mm solvent hopper head provides a dedicated collection point with a solvent connection for suitable underground drainage installations. Supplied as a
hopper head with grate, the fitting allows water to enter while helping to restrict larger leaves, stones and debris from passing directly into the drainage system. The compact design makes it a useful
underground drainage hopper head for patios, yards, rainwater outlets and other external drainage points, while the complete fitting provides a straightforward
drainage hopper head solution for repairs and new installations.
Competa CUG4SHH Solvent Hopper Head
The
Competa CUG4SHH solvent hopper head is designed as a surface-level collection fitting for compatible underground drainage systems. Water entering through the top is directed through the hopper towards the connected drainage pipework below. The solvent connection provides an alternative to the spigot-ended CUG4SH square hopper and is useful where a solvent connection is required within the drainage layout.
110mm Solvent Hopper Head
The
110mm solvent hopper head is intended for use within compatible nominal 110mm underground drainage installations. The solvent connection should be prepared and assembled using the correct compatible solvent-weld procedure and products for the pipework being installed. Before making the joint, ensure both connecting surfaces are clean, dry and correctly aligned. The hopper should also be independently supported rather than relying on the solvent joint alone to maintain its position.
Underground Drainage Hopper Head
An
underground drainage hopper head provides an accessible collection point between surface-level drainage and the underground pipe system. The CUG4SHH can be positioned beneath suitable rainwater or external waste discharge points, or used where surface water needs to be collected before entering below-ground drainage. Keeping the
underground drainage hopper head accessible also makes future cleaning and inspection easier.
Hopper Head with Grate
This
hopper head with grate is supplied with a top grid that allows water to enter the hopper while helping to prevent larger objects and debris from entering the connected drainage pipework. The grate should remain accessible and should be checked periodically for leaves, soil and other material that could restrict water flow. Where the grid becomes blocked, remove accumulated debris before it is washed further into the drainage system.

Drainage Hopper Head for Surface Water
A
drainage hopper head can provide a convenient point for collecting water from external areas before transferring it into the underground drainage system. Typical applications for the CUG4SHH include:
- Rainwater drainage points
- Patios
- Garden paving
- Yards
- Paths
- External waste discharge points
- Domestic drainage projects
- Renovation and extension work
Using a 110mm Solvent Hopper Head
Before installing the
110mm solvent hopper head, establish the required finished surface level and the position of the underground drainage connection. The hopper should be positioned so that incoming water can enter freely while the grate remains accessible for cleaning. Any connected drainage pipework should be correctly supported and aligned before the solvent connection is permanently completed.
Maintaining an Underground Drainage Hopper Head
Regular maintenance of an
underground drainage hopper head helps keep the drainage route clear and reduces the amount of debris entering below-ground pipework. Check the grate periodically and remove leaves, moss, soil and other material that could restrict water entering the hopper. This is particularly important where the hopper is installed close to gardens, trees or other landscaped areas.
Solvent Hopper Head or Spigot Hopper?
The CUG4SHH is the
Competa CUG4SHH solvent hopper head and should be selected where the installation requires the solvent-style connection used by this fitting. For installations requiring a plain spigot-ended square hopper, the separate CUG4SH square spigot hopper may be more appropriate. Check the connection arrangement before ordering so that the hopper matches the surrounding underground drainage system.
Installing the Hopper Head with Grate
Plan the drainage route and finished ground level before installing the
hopper head with grate. Position and support the hopper securely, prepare the connecting surfaces and complete the solvent connection using compatible products and installation methods. Once installed, test the drainage route before completing surrounding paving, concrete or backfill.
