Description

110mm Square Rodding Point for Underground Drainage

The square rodding point provides convenient access to a 110mm underground drainage system for inspection, cleaning and blockage clearance. The FloPlast D883 features a 45° angled entry, sealed square access cover and spigot-ended connection for fitting into a compatible 110mm drainage socket. Manufactured from durable PVC-U, this fitting is suitable for underground gravity drainage and rainwater systems. It allows future access to the drainage run without dismantling surrounding pipework or excavating a larger section of the system.

  • Square sealed access cover
  • Spigot-ended / plain-ended connection
  • Fits into a compatible 110mm drainage socket
  • Black PVC-U construction
  • Push-fit connection system
  • Compatible with ring-seal underground drainage systems
  • Suitable for drainage and rainwater systems
  • Provides access for drain rods and inspection equipment
  • FloPlast manufacturer code D883

Where to Use a Square Rodding Point

Install this fitting at a suitable access position along an underground drainage run. For example, it can provide maintenance access near a change of direction, at the end of a drain run or at another position where future rodding and inspection may be required. The 45° access angle helps guide drainage rods into the pipework. As a result, maintenance work can often be completed without disturbing surrounding fittings or excavating the drainage system. The square cover also provides a clearly defined access point at finished ground level. However, the cover should remain accessible after landscaping, paving or other surrounding works have been completed.

D883 Spigot-Ended Connection

The FloPlast D883 has a plain spigot connection rather than an integral socket. Therefore, the lower connection fits into a compatible 110mm ring-seal socket on an underground drainage pipe, coupler or fitting. If a socket-ended square rodding point is required instead, the corresponding FloPlast product is the D884. Check the connection already available within the drainage system before ordering.

Installing the 110mm Rodding Point

First, choose an installation position that will remain accessible for future maintenance. Avoid permanently covering the rodding point with structures or other materials that prevent the access cover from being removed. Next, inspect the receiving 110mm socket and sealing ring. Remove soil, grit and other loose material from the socket, seal and D883 spigot. Apply a suitable underground drainage lubricant where required. Then align the spigot squarely with the socket and push the joint together. Do not force the fitting into the socket at an angle because this can disturb or damage the sealing ring. Once connected, support the surrounding drainage pipework correctly. The rodding point should form part of a properly bedded system rather than carrying the weight of unsupported pipes or fittings.

Sealed Access Cover

The D883 includes a sealed square cover that closes the drainage access when maintenance is not taking place. Always refit the cover securely after rodding, inspection or cleaning work. A sealed access cover helps keep the underground drainage system enclosed while still allowing the cover to be removed when access is required.

Load Rating and Support

FloPlast states that its 45° rodding points are suitable for loading up to 10kN, approximately 1 tonne, provided that the frame of the cover is correctly supported by a concrete plinth. This load figure depends on correct installation. Therefore, do not assume that an unsupported fitting can withstand the stated load. Provide the required structural support where people, equipment or other loads may pass over the rodding point.

Maintaining the Drainage System

When access is required, remove the sealed square cover and introduce suitable drainage rods or inspection equipment carefully through the angled opening. Avoid excessive force while rodding because this can damage fittings or joints further along the drainage run. Once maintenance is complete, clean the access area and refit the cover securely.
