Description

The VIPSeal VECR165 end cap is a flexible pipe closure designed for pipes with an outside diameter between 155mm and 165mm. This 155-165mm flexible end cap is particularly useful as a 160mm drainage pipe cap and is manufactured as an EPDM rubber pipe end cap with a stainless-steel tension band for a secure connection. The VECR165 can be used as a permanent clean-out closure or as a temporary pipe protection cap to help prevent dirt and debris entering open pipework during construction, maintenance or drainage alterations. VIPSeal also states that its VECR end caps can be adapted for air testing by fitting a suitable nipple connection, although the nipple is not supplied.

VIPSeal VECR165 End Cap

The VIPSeal VECR165 end cap is the genuine manufacturer reference for the 155–165mm model within the VIPSeal VECR flexible end-cap range. VIPSeal manufactures the VECR range to cap pipes of different materials according to their actual outside diameter. This makes the VECR165 particularly useful where a rigid cap made for one specific pipe system would not provide the required fit. Always measure or confirm the outside diameter of the pipe before ordering. The VECR165 is intended for pipe outside diameters from 155mm up to 165mm.

155-165mm Flexible End Cap

The 155-165mm flexible end cap provides a practical closure across a useful range of pipe outside diameters. The flexible EPDM sleeve conforms around the outside of the pipe, while the stainless-steel tension band is tightened to secure the cap. This means the 155-165mm flexible end cap can be used across several pipe materials provided the measured outside diameter falls within the manufacturer’s specified range. VIPSeal lists common VECR165 applications including 160mm PVC-U, 150mm cast iron, 150mm stainless steel and 160mm polyethylene pipework.

160mm Drainage Pipe Cap

Used as a 160mm drainage pipe cap, the VECR165 provides a convenient way to close compatible 160mm drainage pipework where the actual pipe outside diameter is within 155–165mm. A 160mm drainage pipe cap can be useful during underground drainage installation, alterations and repair work where an open pipe needs to be temporarily protected or permanently closed while retaining the possibility of future access. Because different pipe materials can have different outside diameters despite sharing a similar nominal size, always confirm the actual pipe O/D rather than choosing solely from the nominal 150mm or 160mm description.

EPDM Rubber Pipe End Cap

The VECR165 is manufactured as an EPDM rubber pipe end cap. VIPSeal uses the same elastomeric rubber technology across its flexible drainage coupling and end-cap ranges. EPDM provides the flexibility required for the cap to form around the outside of compatible pipework. The standard VECR165 is supplied with a 1.4301 grade 304 stainless-steel tension band. VIPSeal also offers alternative nitrile versions and 316 stainless-steel band options for specialist environments, but these are different ordering configurations and should not be assumed to be supplied with the standard VECR165 stocked here.

Temporary Pipe Protection Cap

A temporary pipe protection cap can help prevent soil, rubble and other debris entering an open drainage pipe during construction or while a drainage installation is awaiting completion. The VECR165 can be fitted as a temporary pipe protection cap and later removed when the pipe is ready to be connected or extended. VIPSeal also identifies the VECR range as suitable for permanent clean-out closures where a removable capped access point is required.

Permanent Clean-Out and Air Testing Applications

VIPSeal specifically describes VECR end caps as suitable for permanent clean-outs as well as temporary protective closures. The manufacturer also states that the cap may be used for air testing by inserting a nipple connection into the end cap. The nipple connection is not supplied by VIPSeal and any testing arrangement should be carried out in accordance with the relevant drainage-testing requirements. The manufacturer’s stated pressure rating for the VECR range is 0.6 bar / 8.70 psi. This product is intended for the manufacturer’s stated drainage and low-pressure applications rather than being treated as a general high-pressure pipeline fitting.

VECR165 Pipe Compatibility

The VIPSeal VECR165 end cap is selected according to actual pipe outside diameter rather than pipe material alone. VIPSeal’s current datasheet lists common VECR165 applications including:

• 160mm polyethylene pipe
• Other compatible pipe materials with an outside diameter between 155mm and 165mm

Compatibility should always be confirmed from the measured pipe outside diameter before installation.

6Nm Stainless-Steel Tension Band

The standard VECR165 is supplied with a 304 stainless-steel tension band. VIPSeal specifies a tightening torque of 6Nm for VECR products within this diameter range. The band should be tightened evenly using a suitable torque-controlled tool. Applying the manufacturer’s stated torque helps ensure that the flexible cap is secured correctly without relying on guesswork during installation.
